The race was a close one. The 787-9 has done its first flight in …Japan.
ANA had been the first recipient of a 787 Dreamliner and flew the first commercial flight with a NRT - HKG on October 26, 2011. This time, things were not as clearcut.
Jaunted recounts: Air New Zealand got first for the delivery a bit less than a month ago, while ANA got its own two weeks ago. Both had VIPs flown (NZ with media, NH with school kids) but no paying passenger. Originally, plans were not to introduce the plane commercially before the fall.
But, you know, ego and stuff.
ANA was best and fastest at introducing the plane into its system: it just flew it as NH241 between Haneda and Fukuoka (departure time, 7.25am JST).
Air New Zealand has been beaten by two days (it shall fly it on an AKL- SYD on August 9).
