This really is an extraordinary statistic.

Aviation and aviation-related activities will derive nearly one-third of Dubai’s entire gross domestic product (GDP) by 2020, according to the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA).

A lot of this has been fuelled by the meteoric rise of Dubai airport, which is currently being expanded to handle over 100 million passengers by the end of the decade. But that's nothing compared to the new Al Maktoum International Airport, "which is due to eventually have an annual capacity of 160 million passengers." Staggering.

But can the Dubai airport infrastructure keep up with Emirates' hunger for expansion? After all, they just took delivery of their 50th A380 with another 40 on order. Only time will tell.
