San Francisco Airport is testing out location-aware beacons to help visually-impaired people navigate around one of its newest terminals
After Virgin at LHR (with Estimote), HND (of sorts, and I'm not sure with which provider), SFO is having a go at enhanced navigation and location-based services. The app, developed by Indoo.rs will help the blind and visually impaired find their way through the terminal—at least part of it, to start with. 300 so-called beacons (a low energy passive device) will be installed for this trial.
Indoo.rs is part of an entrepreneur program developed by the Mayor of San Francisco with the goal of making public services more efficient, responsive and accountable.
